How to be more confident in yourself is a natural process when done right!

Many years ago, before books upon books were written about how to develop your confidence, I was one of those people who would get a tummy ache just from someone saying “hi” to me.

Confidence comes from knowing who you are as well as having a clear perception of your relationship with others. Realizing you are capable of achieving your goals comes from an understanding of know what abilities you possess as well, which one you should build upon.

I’m pretty sure it is something which we all face at one time in our life.

Of course, some are darn confident about themselves.

And I’m happy for them!

But this post is for those who lack self-confidence but want to become more confident in themselves.

Tell you the truth even though I have become a more confident person, I still have fears which sometimes get in the way.

But luckily I have some excellent books which teach you how to be more confident in yourself. When I read one of my self books, I’m back to being on top of the world again.

At one time before I started reading self-help books, like yourself, I wondered how a book could help me?

What I learned from books, due to my love of reading, I could not have learned from anywhere else.

I’m a very visual person when it comes to the written word. I feel as though I learn more from the written word; then I would from watching videos.

Below I outlined three books that will show you how to become more confident in yourself.

Even if you read just one, apply it thoroughly, you will notice a difference immediately.

Awaken the Giant Within

This book comes from the powerhouse, Anthony Robbins!

The length of this book may seem overwhelming at first, but once you get into it, it’s hard to put down.

Tony Robbins teaches you how to master:

  • Finances
  • Emotional health
  • Mental health
  • Physical health

He has an exuding type of energy which comes through the book.

I can only imagine what his motivational speeches are like!

Not only is he writing, but his marketing strategies come through really well too. Whenever we think of motivational speakers, the name Tony Robbins pops up quite often.

This amazing man has reached over 4 million people in over 100 different countries. Tony wrote “Awaken the Giant Within” Back in 1991. It is still one of the best-selling books at Amazon.

This book teaches you how to build a desire to change something which isn’t working in your life.

This book is packed with neurolinguistic programming. The book will teach you how to reprogram your system naturally.

As you read the book, you’re required to take action. This specific action goes on to reprogram your nervous system.

Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway

Susan Jeffers explains how fear gets in the way of getting what we want.

In her book, she teaches us how to lead an actively committed and empowered life, moving away from fear.

She shows us that our perceptions are what colors our world as well as determines our reality.

Susan suggests that we take responsibility for the situation, which can lead us to total fulfillment.

Her book is based on five truths about fear:

  1. Fear is a part of the package of growing
  2. To get rid of the fear you need to go out and face it
  3. Each little step you take you will face fear
  4. Everyone faces fear
  5. Pushing past fear is better than feeling helpless

This book was written in 1987, yet it is still gold.

Susan’s message in this book is to make you believe in your dreams. She does this by showing you that once you reach your limits, don’t stop moving forward.

She teaches you how to handle fear like a pro. Sometimes we need to reeducate ourselves into accepting fear as part of our evolvement.

Her focus on positive thinking is to reduce the fear, which happens at the end of a negative thought.

Reprogram your subconscious to think differently is delivered quite well in this book.

The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem

Nathaniel Branden hones in on how self-esteem helps to achieve better living.

I like how Nathaniel weaves his own story into the writing. It brings a more personal touch and creates empathy for his story.

It’s this empathy that teaches us how to have better self-esteem, which leads to a more comfortable chosen path that we want to follow.

In this book, Branden incorporates that self-esteem is not boasting or arrogance, but instead that it is healthy to feel good about ourselves.

He draws on a lifetime of clinical practice and research to offer a concrete definition of how to be more confident in yourself while raising your self-esteem.

What you will learn in this book is:

  • Increased awareness
  • Acceptance
  • Responsibility
  • Assertiveness
  • Purposefulness
  • Integrity

All these combined will help you to raise your self-esteem, but you will need to follow the path he lays out on how to do it.

He also explained how self-esteem is the immune system of consciousness. It’s an innate ability which we need to handle life’s difficulties.

How to be more confident in yourself requires you to develop a belief in who you are.

Anyways, in my opinion, these three books are pretty good at explaining that. They go above and beyond of how it feels to be really confident about yourself.

I would say purchase all three but if not at least purchase one of them as they are equally matched.

    I have awaken the giant within and it’s an amazing book. This reminds me that I really need to finish it. I’m about halfway through but have been procrastinating. I haven’t read the other two but I have heard great things about the second book. I know it was big in the 1980’s. I’m definitely going to put those two down on my future reading lists. I can’t get enough of books like that. My favorite books in the category are Psychocybernetics and The magic of thinking big. I highly recommend both. They really help me to build up my confidence. Thanks for the great review!

    1. My thoughts on reading old books, is they have some gold knowledge in them. Books written now are basically sounding off from what the older books are talking about. Like yourself, I love reading as well. Thank you for your comment.

  2. Self-confidence has been something I have struggled with the last few years. Facing my fears has been one way I have used to overcome. The more you do the thing you are fearful about, the more confident you become at doing it.  I don’t think I have the motivation to overcome the fear of singing just to quit chocolate. Oh well, will just have to keep the chocolate addiction.

    The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem by Nathaniel Branden sounds like an interesting read I must add to my list. Thanks for the book reviews, much appreciated.

  3. Hi Jagi! I have heard a lot of good reviews about this book Tony Robbins wrote. I didn’t know he had written it back in 1991. It’s impressive how it still continues to be in the best-selling books in Amazon.

    Tony Robbins is a great motivational speaker. And it’s always a thrill to hear him.

It’s interesting to know that these books were written many years ago and are still relevant in helping people to realise who they are and leading a purposeful life. These 3 books are worth reading by everyone with the brief review you shared about them. I have read some excerpt quotes online from Awaken the giant within by Tony Robbin, I haven’t read the book itself. But now I will make an order for it on Amazon. Struggling to be confident in one’s self is a journey that requires conscious effort and I have learnt that getting as much resources that educate and help one to build confidence can never be over stated. I like these three books but especially the Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers and The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem by Nathaniel Brandon. These two,I am definitely getting for myself and family members.

  6. The best character I like in people is confidence. The ability to believe in yourself even when the odds are stacked heavily against you. Most successful people have this in common, they gave endless belief in their own ability. 

    All three books you’ve listed here will really go a long way in helping each one of us, conquer our fears. I am really thinking of purchasing, “awaken the giant within” because, I have heard a lot about this book. Self confidence is a trait that everyone of us should seek, irrespective of the fears we may have.

    I love Tony Robins and have already read his other book about financial growth and how to manage money. I think that I am going to follow your advice and try and get my hands on a copy of Awaken The Giant Within. I am positive it will have a great effect on my life too.
